Rumour Report: Seguin, Benn future in Dallas unclear; Frolik, Edler + more

Rumblings continue to surround the Dallas Stars; the Canucks and Flames are fielding plenty of calls and more in today's NHL Rumour Report update.

  • The Canucks are rumoured to be receiving plenty of calls on their blueline, including the usual suspects of Alex Edler, Erik Gudbranson and Chris Tanev. Michael Del Zotto has had trouble sticking in the Canucks lineup and is probably available as well at this point. Up front, Nikolay Goldobin's name is out there as well. All of this depends in large part on where the Canucks sit in the standings in a month or so, as they still find themselves in a fight for a playoff spot. The youth movement is strong in Vancouver, but they are not a contender yet.

  • Michael Frolik hasn't had a great year in Calgary, and his agent has taken notice. Frolik's name surfaced in the rumour mill earlier in the season, so it would be no surprise if he was moved at some point this season or in the summer.
  • In the fallout of Dallas CEO Jim Lite's scathing criticism of Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, some are wondering whether the two player's relationship with the organization might be irreparably damaged. Rumblings suggest the organization has been unhappy with the play of Benn for several seasons now. The Stars - a team that badly needs playoff revenue and has only made the playoffs twice in the last decade - are on the hook for almost 20 million due to their top two players through 2025. If the Stars don't make the playoffs, many expect big changes are coming this offseason.

  • Despite making a flurry of moves over the past few weeks, the Oilers are rumoured not to be done trading. With GM Peter Chiarelli likely fighting for his job, it might take a home run type of deal to right the ship. Ryan Spooner, Cam Talbot and Jesse Puljujarvi's names have surfaced as trade possibilities. Brace yourselves, Oilers fans.
  • No shock, but reports suggest that the Maple Leafs are still in pursuit of a high end defensive upgrade.
  • We're now less than two months away from the February 25th NHL trade deadline. Buckle up. The NHL trade rumour board is getting updated multiple times a day now.
