Bruins, Jets and Oilers rumours, KHLers making NHL comebacks + more
Boston and Winnipeg talking defensemen
Rumours in the summer that the Bruins were pursuing Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien were dismissed by many as hearsay from bloggers suffering through a long and boring summer. As it turns out, the Bruins talked to just about every team in the league regarding the availability of top four defenseman, and that includes Byfuglien.
On the Move? Marleau, Yandle, Hamhuis + lots of other big names that could be dealt
Marleau Yandle swap?
Is there something brewing between the Rangers and Sharks? Some have linked defenseman Keith Yandle and winger Patrick Marleau in trade speculation.
The Rangers have been keeping tabs on the Sharks, sending a stream of scouts to watch their games in recent weeks. We also know that when Marleau went to Sharks management to ask for a trade, he named the Rangers one of his three preferred destinations. Likewise, the Rangers know full well that Yandle will walk to unrestricted free agency this summer and have been looking to deal him for a while.
What's next for Drouin? + Canes and Isles rumours
What's next? A quick trade to end the headache for all parties involved? Or are we headed for a war of attrition?
Rumour update: Drouin, Backes, Tanguay, Cowen + more
A few bits and pieces as we inch closer to the February 29th trade deadline...
Two big names that have surfaced in the last week or so...centers David Backes and Alex Galchenyuk. In the past it would have been easy to dismiss these rumours, but the cap-constrained NHL has been forcing teams to cough up good players in order to get under the cap or prepare for the future. With the Canadian dollar slipping under 70 cents, it's no wonder NHL GMs are getting nervous.
Drouin Watch: St. Louis clear frontrunners, but others remain in the mix
Drouin Watch is on high alert as reports continue to surface that a deal may happen as early as this weekend.
The St. Louis Blues have emerged as the clear frontrunner. I wrote earlier this week that the Blues were looking for wingers, and Drouin might make some sense there.
Possible Drouin suitors emerge as rumours swirl in Tampa
News broke today that forward Jonathan Drouin has requested a trade out of Tampa Bay. The 20 year old has had difficulty winning his coach's trust, and as a result was recently demoted to the AHL.
Rumours of Drouin's discontent started emerging during last year's playoffs, where he served as waterboy while Tampa Bay stormed to the Stanley Cup finals. Those rumours continued to percolate during a dull summer, and you can be forgiven if you thought it was nothing more than bored bloggers keeping themselves occupied.
