Rumour Report: 31 team rumour update, part one

With the trade season upon us, it's time to look at where things stand with all 31 teams. Here is part one of our league-wide rumour update.

  • June 15th note - keep in mind that some of the information below will quickly become out of date as trades happen. For instance, the Jonathan Drouin has just been traded to the Canadiens.
  • Anaheim Ducks - The center of attention in the defenseman market. Sami Vatanen drawing interest from Toronto, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, New Jersey and Dallas. A possible contender for Gabriel Landeskog. Tampa have shown interest in Sami Vatanen, but may only be interested if Jonathan Drouin comes the other way.
  • Arizona Coyotes - Have listened to offers from several teams, including Calgary, on veteran goaltender Mike Smith. Will make an effort to add another top defenseman, with targets including Jacob Trouba and Kevin Shattenkirk, and could be in the mix for Derek Stepan. The Blue Jackets want to offload the David Clarkson contract somewhere; Arizona is an option.
  • Boston Bruins - Seem to be in on a lot of things right now. Have inquired on defensemen Jonas Brodin, Matt Dumba and Jacob Trouba, and have listened to offers on Ryan Spooner. An option for Kevin Shattenkirk in free agency.

  • Buffalo Sabres - Kicking tires on the defenseman market; Sami Vatanen is of particular interest. Not committed to RFA goaltending Robin Lehner, so watch to see what the Sabres do in net.
  • Calgary Flames - Goaltending an obvious focus for the Flames. Marc-Andre Fleury, Jaroslav Halak and Mike Smith are rumoured possibilities, as is bringing back Brian Elliott and Chad Johnson if need be. Some suggestions they're listening to offers on Sam Bennett, but the likelihood of a trade remains low.
  • Carolina Hurricanes - Fielding calls on their defensmen, including Ryan Murphy, Justin Faulk and Noah Hanifin. Looking for a taker for Eddie Lack, who finds himself third on the goalie depth chart. Mysterious rumours suggesting Teuvo Teravainen was available emerged at the trade deadline (update: Teravainen has been re-signed). A suitor for Matt Duchene.

  • Chicago Blackhawks - They're obviously up to something. By the team you read this, they may have already made a trade or two. Marcus Kruger and Trevor van Riemsdyk may be packaged in a deal with Vegas, and rumours continue to swirl around Niklas Hjalmarsson and Artem Anisimov. Rumours have connected the Blackhawks to countless players, including Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Brandon Saad and Matt Duchene (despite the obvious cap problems they have).
  • Colorado Avalanche - Matt Duchene has drawn interest from many teams, including the Senators, Islanders, Hurricanes, and Canadiens. Landeskog seems to be getting less traction, but his name is very much out there. Tyson Barrie and Nathan MacKinnon are likely to stay put, but their names are also out there. May wait until the draft to make a splash.

  • Columbus Blue Jackets - Rumoured to be hoping to rid themselves of the David Clarkson contract, and Vegas sounds willing to hear offers. Defensemen Ryan Murray and Jack Johnson's names are out there as well. A darkhorse in the Duchene derby.
  • Dallas Stars - Looking for defensive help - Sami Vatanen comes to mind. Would consider moving the third overall pick in the draft if it lands them something that helps them now. Will likely use a buyout on Antti Niemi in the coming weeks. Rumours suggest they may listen to offers on Cody Eakin.
  • Stay tuned for part two.
