Rumour Report: Rumblings intensify as NHL free agency, draft approaches

There's a lot brewing around the NHL as the offseason officially kicks off.

  • The trade market is ready to pop with plenty of rumours swirling around the NHL. Here is a smattering of rumours to kick the offseason off.
  • In Edmonton, Jesse Puljujarvi wants out. The Oilers don't want to give him away, and his value isn't exactly stellar right now. There have been rumours that the Senators have interest, and would take on a bad contract to make it happen. Many teams are likely to get into the bidding war.

  • Same sort of situation in Dallas with Valeri Nichushkin - he wants out, and the team is willing to move him for cheap. He just hasn't panned out.
  • The Ducks are trying to move Corey Perry. Which teams might be interested? At $8.2 million and two years remaining, there won't be many. If the Ducks retain salary, that list should expand. If not, a buyout is an option.

  • The Leafs are desperately trying to move out salary - not just so they can re-sign Mitch Marner, but in hopes of keeping Jake Gardiner from going to free agency. Nikita Zaitsev and Patrick Marleau are being shopped.
  • The Hurricanes continue to look for offence league-wide. Think of any prominent forward in the rumour mill - from Vladimir Tarasenko to William Nylander to Jason Zucker - the Hurricanes are involved.
  • The Jacob Trouba sweepstakes continue to heat up. The betting favourite right now appears to be the Rangers, but there are a lot of teams in the mix. Boston, Dallas, Detroit and Colorado are others that have been mentioned.
  • The next couple of weeks are going to get pretty busy on the trade front. Plenty more updates like this coming through the pipeline. Stay tuned.
