Flames goalie trade? LA after centers, NYI rumours + more

We're getting there folks. Training camp is just around the corner. Summer unofficially ends for several NHL players who will take part in pre-training camp camps such as the one put on by BioSteel this week.

LA looking at depth centermen

The Kings are believed to be looking for a bit more depth at center. The names Mike Santorelli and Jim Slater have been surfacing.

Nielsen off the Island?

All the talk has been about Kyle Okposo but I feel Frans Nielsen might be the one who goes when all is said and done.

The Isles don't want to lose Okposo and are willing to trade or lose Nielsen if that is what it takes. This is likely a deal that happens closer to the deadline or next summer, but anything can happen if the right deal comes along.

Is Hiller the odd man out in Flames goalie logjam?

A situation that looks like it will end up in a trade eventually: the Flames have three NHL calibre goalies on one-way deals between Jonas Hiller, Kari Ramo and Joni Ortio.

The Flames brass believes in Ortio's abilities as an NHL goaltender, and Kari Ramo is emerging as the Flames most talented goalie. Could Jonas Hiller be the odd man out if Ramo (or Ortio) were to take the starting job and run with it?

One way or another, the Flames have a tough decision to make in the near future.

Maxim Lapierre

I believe he is still talking to a couple teams in the East who want to bring him in on a one year deal. The Penguins have kept a dialogue going with Lapierre throughout the summer but aren't necessarily a frontrunner.

Cheechoo back to the NHL?

Take it with a grain of salt but a rumour out there has Jonathan Cheechoo making an NHL comeback this season.

The former 50 goal scorer he seen his game precipitously decline over the years, so a move back to the NHL would certainly be surprising to many.
